Paternity Leave

Companies around the UK have a different process for Paternity Leave. In some cases, employees are not entitled to have any paternity leave or paternity pay. DNA Bioscience has provided some useful information below that could help you understand why you might NOT be entitled to Paternity Leave and pay.

Reasons why you may not have qualified for Paternity leave and pay:

  • If you were not working continuously for the same employer during the 26 week period prior to the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth.
  • If you were not working for the same employer during the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth.
  • If you did not continue working for the same employer up until the actual date of birth.
  • You do not earn above the Lower Earnings Limit.
  • You will not have responsibility for bringing up the child
  • You are not taking the leave to care for the child or support the mother
  • You are not the biological father, the mother's partner or married to the mother.

In some instances, when families are debating paternity, this can impact paternity pay and paternity leave if they find out that no biological relationship exists. To quickly and accurately determine paternity please navigate to Paternity Testing Services.
